Forkdrift (2020)

Position: SFX Lead, UI/UX Programmer


Forkdrift
is a multiplayer action game where players take control of customizable forklifts and take part in either of two game modes: the King of the Hill-styled "Delivery" mode or the free-for-all "Fork Frenzy" mode.

My tasks were split between implementing various HUD components, setting up the customization menu, and sound design. I worked with various designers, artists, and programmers on the first two, but I was mostly autonomous when it came to sound design. I later built upon the sound manager I wrote for Forkdrift on future student games.

  • Sourced, edited, and balanced 11 sounds
  • Built an audio manager for forklifts
    • Multi-phase tire screech for drifting
    • Lift raising and lowering
    • Honking and back-up alarm
    • Engine revving
  • Implemented object pooling for impact sounds
  • UI sounds based on car beeping
UI/UX
  • Minimap with icons for crates and other players
  • Speed gauge
  • "Delivery" scoreboard with rotating gear to indicate that progress is being made
  • Forklift customization menu
    • Options for chassis, wheels, lift forks, and hats
    • Two password-protected hats for helpers and developers
